SF Real Estate By Joske Thompson: Bridge Theatre Sold for $2M, Will Become Baseball Academy

The Bridge Theatre on Geary closed down to movie-going audiences more than a year ago, but it has now been sold and will find a second life as the home of a local baseball training school. The San Francisco Baseball Academy bought the Bridge for nearly $2 million and will be moving its operations from the Dogpatch to the Geary site. The theater, which was built in 1939 in honor of the then-new Golden Gate Bridge, is historic so don't expect lots of renovations or construction. It has one screen and 350 seats, and its facade sign is painted in International Orange as a nod to the Golden Gate.

The Bridge is the third old San Francisco theater to be repurposed for athletic purposes; the Metro Theater on Union Street will soon reopen as an Equinox Gym and the Alhambra Theater on Polk Street became a Crunch Fitness. According to SF Business Times, the Bridge could not become a more traditional gym because of the lack of foot traffic on that section of Geary.
